First Playable

Split the Twilight

Our game is called Split the Twilight and my roles are programmer and designer.

Players responded to the game as expected. We hadn't finished building a playable game and so people had to critique the art clarity of the game and what kinds of mechanics we could have implemented. One of the changes suggested was to add a game loop. For mechanics, people suggested that we add more movement and jumping as well as some creative ideas revolving around a change in weapon types. When it came to the in game character and art people commented on how they liked the theme and animation. However many also noted that the contrast is a bit low and that both the character and the background are dark. This could make it difficult for people with low vision. There was a suggestion to make buildings in a very light color such as light grey in between the character and background. With light colored buildings, it might add enough contrast for the player to see.

I plan to change a lot based on this feedback. For starters, I think me and my partner will work on it for another week and try to implement all the mechanics we need for a proper playable game. I also liked the idea of adding light colored buildings to help with the contrast of colors. We were already planning on implementing buildings, but I appreciated the suggestion of color and how it should be light. I think I plan to keep the character as it is and just add more light colored items in between the character and background to help make it more visible. I also plan to add to the animations so that there is a fighting animation and to create more movement. Overall, these suggestions were really helpful in mechanic recommendations and needed changes regarding art clarity.
